Recently, I undertook a project. Unfortunately, I understimated the complexity and time commitment this project would take. I am not sure I correctly assessed my abilities. I also did not realize all that the project would entail. This created a lot of late nights, a lot of stress and anxiety, and drastically affected my moods over the past couple of weeks. Have you ever experienced something similar? Have you ever overestimated your abilities? Have you ever underestimated the task you agreed to? Or perhaps, you budgeted for a project and then were faced with a lot of unexpected costs? Maybe you agreed to meet a certain deadline and then life struck, and someone was sick, someone else had a delay, or something out of your control prevented you from meeting the deadline? These things happen. After all, you are only human, I am only human, we have a finite amount of time, energy, resources, money and abilities.
When I completed my project, I felt a lot of relief and came to an amazing realization. I am blessed to serve an infinite God. God never runs out of resources. God never is short on ability. God is infinite! Nothing is hard for Him and He can’t overestimate Himself. “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. (Jeremiah 32:17)” He understands and knows everything. “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. (Psalm 147:5)” And Jesus, Himself, said that nothing is impossible for His Father. “Jesus looked at them and said. ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’ (Matthew 19:26)”
You and I may be limited and finite—but how comforting it is to know that our God, the God who loves us and the God who redeems us is not!
